Weather

It takes certain ingredients in order to provide a high quality heliski experience.

Factors that can be influenced are:
Experienced and friendly guides who make optimal and safe use of the area.
Experienced and friendly pilots and well maintained, powerful helicopters.
Comfortable accommodation with good food and clean and quiet rooms.
A good organization with motivated and friendly staff who know that the client comes first.

A significant factor that cannot be influenced is the weather. All the above mentioned factors are useless, unless there is enough quality powder snow. Our goal at YAH is to offer our guests untracked powder. This is only possible if we get enough precipitation and at regular intervals. It is important that the precipitation cycles are short and productive and superseded with nice weather. The right mix is crucial.

The guest will not benefit from an area with high precipitation amounts if this constant precipitation limits the skiing to below treeline as the helicopter is unable to fly due to limited visibility in the alpine.

Yes! There is such a thing as too much snow. Massive precipitation amounts make it extremely hard to move forward and increases the avalanche danger. Furthermore, due to the large amount of snow, skiing is only possible on steep slopes as on the mellower runs skiers will most likely get stuck in the deep snow. Also, the steep slopes can only be skied in treed areas due to the fact that the avalanche danger on the open slopes is simply too high beyond a certain slope angle.
